About us

Free Hot Springs of Italy is an independent guide to free and open-access thermal springs and hot pools in Italy. It started as a sister project of Italia Fantasma, with the same spirit: real places, a map by region and pages curated by hand.

How we work

Every hot spring on this site is a real place, researched and checked against public sources: official websites, tourist offices, newspapers, travel guides and the open map of OpenStreetMap. On every page we show the main source and the date of the last check.

We don't make up data. When a piece of information, such as a water temperature, an opening time or a price, isn't confirmed by reliable sources, we say so clearly with the words "to be checked". We also take care to separate the truly free hot springs from those with a small fee or access rules, such as opening hours, membership fees or bans.

Our descriptions

All the texts on this site are our own original writing. We don't copy descriptions from other sites: sources are used to check the facts, the storytelling is ours. The English pages are translated from our Italian originals.

Stilla, our guide

In the bottom right corner you'll find Stilla, a little drop of hot water with a towel on her head: she is a chat assistant who answers using only the data about the hot springs on this site, with links to their pages. She can make mistakes, so always check opening times and access before you go.

How we fund the site

The site is free and is funded by Google AdSense advertising and by affiliate links to Booking.com. If you book accommodation through our links, we receive a small commission at no extra cost to you. This has no influence whatsoever on which hot springs we include or on the information we publish.

Help us improve

Conditions at free hot springs change often: new local rules, closures, reopenings. If you have visited a hot spring recently or know one we're missing, let us know. Every contribution helps us keep the map reliable for everyone.

The guide currently includes 37 places in 9 regions, last updated on 21 October 2026.
