Free hot springs in Emilia-Romagna

Emilia-Romagna is a region of great spa towns, from Salsomaggiore to Castrocaro, from Porretta to Bagno di Romagna, but almost all of them are paid spas. Free springs where you can bathe without a ticket are very rare.

The loveliest exception is in the Val Trebbia, opposite Bobbio: Rio Foino, known as Acqua Salata, a public spring used since Roman times, with a small free basin and salt-iodine water at about 20 °C. It isn't a hot soak, but a refreshing stop to combine with a day in the village of the Ponte Gobbo.
