Free hot springs in Tuscany

Tuscany has the highest concentration of free hot springs in Italy. The credit goes to what lies beneath it: from Monte Amiata to the Maremma, from the Val d'Orcia to the Colline Metallifere, rainwater sinks deep underground, heats up against the rocks and rises again rich in minerals, often sulphurous. The result is travertine waterfalls, hot streams in the woods and ancient stone pools where you can bathe without paying.

On this page you will find every Tuscan free hot spring we have checked, from the most famous, like the Cascate del Mulino at Saturnia, to little-known corners of the Val di Cecina and Lunigiana. For each one we give the water temperature, access, directions and current status: open, regulated or to be checked. Remember that these are natural places with no facilities: bring everything you need and leave the place as you found it.
