About Bozzetti di Equi Terme

Equi Terme is a small village in Lunigiana, at the foot of the Apuan Alps, known for its karst caves, marble quarries and sulphur springs. Besides the spa, the village has a free corner much loved by locals: the Bozzetti, small pools along the Catenelle stream where the sulphurous water mixes with the river water.

According to the source we consulted, the temperature is around 25-27 °C: not a hot soak, but pleasant water in the summer months, perfect for cooling off after a walk. The pools are a few minutes' walk from the village centre, which makes them convenient for families too, with the usual care needed on the wet stones of a stream.

The beauty of the Bozzetti is their authentic atmosphere: no crowds, no facilities, just the sound of the water and the limestone walls of the Apuan Alps all around. It's a place to enjoy discreetly, without altering the pools and without leaving rubbish. The best time is summer; in the other seasons the water is too cool for a pleasant swim.

Equi Terme also offers other interesting sights: the Equi Caves, which can be visited with a guide, the Solco di Equi, a spectacular gorge between the rocks, and several trails into the Apuan Alps. Not far away are the villages of Lunigiana, Fivizzano and the Malaspina castles.

Bring river shoes, a towel and something to eat: on a summer afternoon the Bozzetti make a refreshing, genuine stop, far from the more famous spa destinations of southern Tuscany.

A note on safety: as with all mountain streams, after heavy rain the water level can rise quickly and the current become treacherous. If the sky over the Apuan Alps darkens or the water looks murky, it's better to give up the swim and come back another day. On clear days, on the other hand, the Bozzetti are a small corner of peace, perfect for getting away from the daily routine.
